While I agree with the premise that CNN's coverage this weekend was 100 times better than its coverage last weekend, I wouldn't go that far in praising the coverage. Yes, they had some eyewitness interviews and some guests who had relatives in Iran but it was very repetitive. They ran the same tape, the same interviews over and over. The commentators that I saw were not particularly insightful or balanced. Last night Wolf Blitzer, filling in for Larry King (don't even go there) had David Gergen and Paul Wolfowitz and, of the two, Wolfowitz was less critical
of Obama.
He then added Robin Wright to the mix and I was relieved because at least she knows something about Iran and isn't just spouting platitudes about how Obama needs to be more muscular in his response. That continues to be a problem with CNN's coverage: They are using the story in Iran to drum up a fight among U.S. politicians and commentators about how Obama should be responding. I think Obama's response has been correct but beyond that, why does CNN have to make this story about us? I know that I am not alone in being utterly transfixed by this story because of the courage and dignity and thirst for freedom of the Iranian people. That is the story and you have done an outstanding job of covering it. If events in Iran escalate, there may be a time for a more "muscular" response by President Obama but so far, I think he has it right.
