“The Pearls, However, Are Absolutely Non-Negotiable”

A sneak-peak of Meryl Streep as the Iron Lady:

The line reminded me of Madeleine Albright's "brooch diplomacy," an exhibition which is still touring the US (in New Orleans now). Allahpundit is offput:

The voice sounds right, of course, and no one’s going to give up on the movie after one teaser, but the vibe feels off. For one thing, I can imagine a lot of ways to capture the spirit of a movie about “The Iron Lady” in 60 seconds, but having two guys lecture her about her pearls isn’t near the top of the list. It’s not that the film shouldn’t touch on gender politics; it’s that, if you’re a Thatcher fan, there are a thousand other things about her that you’d rather see it address.
