Against Waiting For A Better Deal

by Patrick Appel

Echoing Ezra Klein, Ross Douthat encourages Republicans to make a deal while they have leverage:

Mitt Romney could get elected in 2012 with a Republican House and Senate, or Chris Christie could be swept into office in 2016 with a mandate to make all the hard choices that the Bush and Obama White Houses avoided. But it’s just as possible that Obama will be re-elected, that the Tea Party’s zeal will gradually burn itself out (as grassroots insurgencies tend to do), and the thousands upon thousands of people joining the rolls of Medicare every year make any kind of entitlement reform steadily more politically toxic.
