Look: it’s perfectly clear what happened. As usual, Romney kept his options open, remaining head of Bain while he burnished his political credentials at the Olympics, with the option of returning. It seems to me that he has responsibility for his own company during those years, however engaged he was managerially (on and off, it seems safe to say, since he talked under oath of returning to Massachusetts and attending board meetings of Bain acquisitions in that period, and his lawyer insisted that his Massachusetts activities continued “unabated” while he was in Utah).
