A Poem From The Year

"All the Activity There Is" by Mary Ruefle:

Morning and raining,
raining and morning,
the first soft ashes
of light hit the boathouse
again and again:
all the muffled horns
on a faraway highway
blowing the dice of lights
like coals in your hands:
see, see,
see how sorrow can
derange a man’s mind.
