“Somewhere over Nebraska”. Update from another reader:

Grrrr, please, that VFYAW is not “somewhere over Nebraska.” The picture shows the western end of Lake McConaughy, the largest reservoir in Nebraska. The reservoir is fed by the North Platte River, and is an important irrigation reservoir for thousands of acres of farmland in the Platte River valley, as well as a recreational area for fishermen, boaters, and campers. Fly-over country may look all the same to people at 35,000′, but it has distinct features known and loved by those of us who live here.

San Francisco Bay, 1.50 pm. “A water treatment plant, I think.” Update from a reader:

Actually, these are the famous salt evaporation ponds near Redwood City, used to manufacture a significant quantity of America’s industrial salt.  The different colors come from the different amounts and types of algae which thrive in each pond according to its level of salinity.  An amazing sight on the way into SFO!

Our reader captions:

Singapore Strait on approach.  About 10:00 AM, 4/6/12.  About an hour outside of Singapore on the way to Tokyo, a passenger had a heart attack and we had to turn around.  Only time this has ever happened to me after a half million miles flying.  This was shot on the return. Fortunately the guy seemed to be reasonably well after we landed.  Walked off under his own power.
