Holocaust survivor David Mitzner recites the Kaddish during the Days of Remembrance Program in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol May 1, 2008 in Washington, DC. Organized by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the remembrance program was held on the day of the national commemoration of the holocaust, the attempt by Nazi Germany to extinguish European Jews before and during World War II. Mitzner was born in Warsaw, Poland, and acted as a courier between the Russian and German occupation zones during the war. He was captured and imprisoned in a Soviet gulag in Siberia for eight years.
