Although I respect Obama’s high road tactics and it’s beautiful to see someone run a principled campaign successfully, I fume at the bull that’s been slung his way over the course of this campaign and part of me wishes there was someone out there taking the Republicans to the mat on a daily basis for this crap. Obama’s style of fighting charges has been compared to jujitsu, which fits because he has a subdued, smart style. Jujitsu is a defensive fighting style that focuses on grapples and holds. But sometimes you just want to see a bodyslam, you know?
The former might take less exertion but the latter is just a lot more satisfying to watch. There’s an awesome video on YouTube of Jim Webb debating Lindsey Graham on "Meet the Press" about the war from last summer that I suggest you check out. I enjoyed the video not because he’s an effective debater (which he is) but because watching him I just kept thinking, "Wow, this guy is about to beat the crap out of Lindsey Graham." There’s something cathartic about watching a Democrat out-muscle a Republican, after all the immasculating jokes about Obama’s bowling score, Edwards’ $400 haircut, etc. Also, I just laugh imagining George Stephanopoulus asking Webb about lapel pins. If nothing else, it would be entertaining to watch an Obama/Webb, Good Cop/Bad Cop routine for the next few months.
