A reader writes:
Quoting you on Cheney:
It seems to me that regardless of the merits or demerits of his view, it’s a remarkable violation of civil norms for a vice-president just out of power to assault his successors and all-but declare them indifferent to public safety.
It’s not remarkable, It’s Dick Cheney. The guy who got us into doing torture and invading countries on specious evidence. The guy who helped turn the US Attorneys into partisan tools. This is a man who sees civil norms and then asks what would happen if they did it differently. He’s a product of the Nixon era, having learned only one lesson from that experience: bury the evidence.
And that is just one reason that conservatism has died.
