Why Was Sam Huntington So Special?

Because his politics fit in nowhere:

He was too statist to be a libertarian, too realist to embrace neoconservatism, and too sympathetic to nationalism, religion and the military to identify with liberal Democrats. As a conservative Democrat, then, he is an intellectual rarity.

Sound familiar to you? There are a lot of people like Huntington; if there were a party that represented his ideas, I’d be happy to join. But there isn’t, is there?
