Jorian Polis Schutz traces Argentina's history by hairstyles:
Long hair was not outlawed during Argentina’s military Proceso dictatorship (1976–1983), but it might as well have been. Authorities were waging a constant war against juventud sospechosa (“suspicious youth”)—hippies, rockeros, communists, left-wing Peronists, and homosexuals, all of whom were associated with the wild-hair look. The bárbaro had moved into (or emerged from) the city—and was now dubbed terrorista.
