“It’s a very sad life. It’s part of Satan, I think, to say this is gay.”

by Chris Bodenner

That's how Michele Bachmann described LGBT orientations while attending an "ex-gay" conference in 2004. Jeremy Hooper unearthed the clip (transcribed here), which drips with condescension and ignorance:

Meanwhile, Dan Savage reminds us of Bachmann's preacher problem:

[Bradlee] Dean has called for the execution of gays and lesbians, believes that American Muslims are plotting with American LGBT activists to impose sharia law on the United States (not sure what's in that for us—or for American Muslims who don't want to live under sharia law—but, um, okay…), and during a prayer opening a session of the GOP-controlled state House in Minnesota, Dean insisted that Barack Obama is not a Christian. And Bachmann will be sharing a stage with Dean this September.

The Minnesota Independent is all over Dean and Bachmann. Read the whole thing here.

For all of the bile and cultural resentment of Palin, the other Tea Party darling, at least she doesn't have a history of anti-gay rhetoric like Bachmann's. Though Palin quietly supports banning marriage equality at the federal level, she's been silent on hot-button issues like DADT and the several state-level marriage fights.
