A reader writes:
I hate to give Glenn Beck any credence at all, but after my shock and revulsion of the massacre in Norway, both my wife and I thought it was bizarre that a political party has a summer camp. Can you ever imagine such thing in the US, and if it did exist, can you imagine how the other party would use it?
Such a camp is certainly creepy to me, but Beck's invocation of Nazi youth camps, particularly as the victims' families are only beginning to mourn, is beyond my understanding. Another writes:
Funny thing, Glenn Beck is not alone in comparing the youth league of Norway's Labour Party to the Hitlerjugend. The perpetrator himself, Anders Behring Breivik, referred to the Labour youth league and other young leftwing Norwegians in much the same way in a 2009 blog comment translated by CNN:
"The conservatives dare not openly express their viewpoints in public because they know that the extreme Marxists will trump them. We cannot accept the fact that the Labour Party is subsidising these violent "Stoltenberg jugend", who are systematically terrorising the politically conservative."
Jens Stoltenberg is the current chairman of the Labour Party and prime minister of Norway.
Beck and Breivik, brewed in the same toxic stew of racial and cultural fear and resentment.
