Danny Ayalon, Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister, picked an incredible Twitter spat (for a sitting government official) with Jeffrey Goldberg about his post on the above propaganda video. Marc Tracy collects the tweets and scores the prizefight:
Round 5 @DannyAyalon: “Please back up your statements. Prove to me where that is stated in the video or elsewhere or retract.” And: “I ask you again. Where in the video is this stated, even implicitly?”
@Goldberg3000: “Come on, man, own your feelings! You want to hold onto the settlements, you don’t like the idea of a Palestinian state. Etc.” And “The video is a pro-settlement video. One reason we know this: It’s the same video put out by settlers! tinyurl.com/3w6da32.” And: “You’re right. Your video was designed to convince Israelis to abandon settlements and leave the West Bank.”
Analysis: A flurry from Goldberg! Momentum shifting his way. Ayalon will need to go on the offensive if he wants to regain control. 10-9 Goldberg.
Hussein Ibish calls the discussion "the best thing I have ever seen on Twitter." I'm not sure how high the standards are.
What it does reveal is that Israel is indeed past the point of no return on the West Bank settlements, and is governed by a far right government where Anders Breivik would have felt very much at home. What worries me most about the Christianism that has now completely captured the GOP is its potential alliance with the Zionist fanatics on the West Bank.
