Heads Up, Londoners

We're holding a fundraiser tonight at 7 pm at the LVPO bar in Soho for Immigration Equality. Everyone – gay and straight – who believes in the fundamental right to marry the person you love regardless of nationality is more than welcome. I'm going to give a speech about the issue which has affected me and my husband so deeply for so many years and continues to break up loving married couples with one American spouse, or forces one of them to choose between the country they live in or the person they love. In the week of Valentine's Day, in the wake of a new victory in Washington state, as the British parliament, led by a Tory prime minister prepares to vote for full marriage rights, and as HBO shows a documentary about the vile bans on inter-racial marriage that existed in America for so long … it seems our generation's duty to stand up and be counted.

The US is now more and more alone in the civilized world in this cruel, vile attack on human beings' core dignity as loving committed couples. This injustice must and shall end. It is cruel; it is an attack on American citizens by their own government; it is an attack on foreign citizens by the US government; it is an attack on love itself.

Help us fight back and end this cruelty. It's just 15 quid at the door. And we'll have a great time as well. It would also be wonderful to meet more London dishheads as well.
