Gallup's lastest poll finds that the auto bailout is less popular nationally than it is in Michigan:
These data imply that Romney's and Santorum's opposition to the bailout will resonate with Republicans nationally, who overwhelmingly oppose it. Additionally, with the general election approaching this November, the candidates' opposition appears to be in line with the majority of independents' attitudes.
Pew's numbers differ:
The latest national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted Feb. 8-12 among 1,501 adults, finds that 56% say the loans the government made to GM and Chrysler were mostly good for the economy, while 38% say the loans to the automakers were mostly bad for the economy.
Adam Sorensen says the polls don't necessarily contradict one another because Americans can "simultaneously recognize a policy’s positive impact and frown upon its principles."
