No one denies he has been an asshole and a fool. But I never found the campaign finance abuse allegations very credible – let alone credible enough to put him away in jail for years. So it's something of a victory for common sense that the jury acquitted him on one count and deadlocked on the rest. Keeping an affair secret with funds from close friends who were also campaign contributors doesn't seem to me to be obviously a criminal offense, without some very strong evidence. There wasn't enough.
