All of you nostalgic millennials will especially appreciate this one. As Buzzfeed puts it, "The late Don "Mr. Wizard" Herbert could be kind of a dick to the kids on his show":
Update from a reader:
A friend showed me the Mr. Wizard video, and my first thought was how great it was to see an adult correcting children in a straightforward fashion.
He didn't say "Great try! You almost got it! Really close! or even "Not quite!" He also didn't feed the kids the answer then tell them how smart they are, and he obviously didn't script it beforehand. I even would bet that at least half of the kids on that show did not grow up to become serial killers from damaged self-esteem. He respected them enough to tell them straight-up they were wrong then explain why like the grown-up authority figure he was, and they shut up and listened because he knew what he was talking about and they knew they'd learn something. And so did I. I loved that show and recognized half of the episodes decades after seeing them once.
