Defending Mitt In London

In what should be a Gold Medal performance in spin, the New York Post tries to argue that a bust of Winston Churchill is "of much more significance" than a potential president alienating the entire population of one of America's closest allies. Meanwhile, the poor chap designated to make the case for Romney in Britain, Tim Stanley of the Telegraph, tries mightily, but kinda throws in the towel:

Poor Mitt has got that balance completely wrong. Rather than defer, he offered a professional opinion on why our games have been threatened by trouble (which, of course, they have). Then, to correct the impression of snobbery, he engaged in flattery so transparent (no Mitt, you’re not from Great Britain), that he has earned the eternal loathing of the UK commentariat. The only way to have avoided all these errors was to conduct the entire trip in silence, perhaps guaranteed by wearing a ball gag. If nothing else, it would’ve confounded the view that he hasn’t got a sense of humour.

Romney in a ball-gag. The visual has ruined my lunchtime.
