Photographer Emma Kisiel focuses on roadkill:
Emma Kisiel’s “At Rest” is a photographic series depicting roadkill on American highways and addressing our human fear of confronting death and viewing the dead. Both morbid and beautiful at once, Emma builds and photographs these roadkill memorials at the location at which their life was taken. Speaking about the project she says, “My images draw attention to the fact that, while man has a vast impact on animal and natural life, dominant American religions insist that animals do not have a place in Heaven and are, therefore, of little value in our society.”

Frédéric Nauczyciel captures the voguers of Baltimore:
Since its birth in the New York ballroom scene of the 1960s, voguing has made a few notable entrées into mainstream culture, such as Madonna’s song “Vogue” and the 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning. But French artist Frédéric Nauczyciel’s portraits of modern voguers highlight the ballroom scene’s continued relevance as an underground culture, one that serves as a platform for self-expression for queer people of color in urban communities across the globe. …
Nauczyciel stayed five months in the city, intrigued by the themes of race, gender, and performance that are embedded in ballroom culture. “They invent themselves. They decide who they want to be. They can twist very easily from masculine to feminine, from nice to mean,” he said. “I think it’s very brave, very courageous.”

A Kashmiri Muslim woman show her indelible ink-marked finger after casting her vote during the sixth phase of Indian parliamentary elections on April 24, 2014 in Vejbeour 45 km (28 miles) south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-administered Kashmir, India. Polling stations opened amid tight security, but very few people turned out to cast their votes in the South Kashmir constituency during the Sixth phase of parliamentary elections (Indian national elections).
Scores of people were left injured in four South Kashmir districts as youth clashed with government forces to enforce a poll boycott call given by the dissent politicians in the region. At least four pro Indian political workers were gunned down by suspected rebels in the region days ahead of the voting in the disputed Himalayan region. A polling officer was killed while five others were critically injured after unidentified gunmen attacked polling staff in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday evening. The polling staff was returning home when they were fired upon in Nagbal area of the town. The area has been cordoned off. The identity of the slain is being ascertained. By Yawar Nazir/Getty Images.

The back-story:
Delino Deshields Jr., son of RBI Baseball legend Delino Deshields, is a prospect in the Houston Astros organization who had a solid Single-A campaign last year. Unfortunately for him, that’s not why he’s making news. He’s making news because he was clocked in the face with a 90 mph fastball over the weekend, resulting in this cringeworthy aftermath.

Viktoria Sorochinski describes her project Anna & Eve, which profiles a mother and daughter:
I first met Anna and Eve in Montreal where I used to live…. They drew my attention because of the unusual dynamic of their relationship. They seemed to interact like two sisters rather than like a mother and a daughter. The little Eve had this incredible power and maturity which one can very rarely encounter in a 4-year old child. The mother, on the other hand, seemed to be much more childish and naive for her age. They were both in the process of growing up and discovering this world. They were both learning from each other.
