The Dadaab refugee complex in northeastern Kenya consists of three separate camps and has been in operation for 18 years and is currently home to some 289,500 inhabitants. Most of the residents of the camps are Somalis who are fleeing escalating violence in that country. Dadaab currently holds three times as many people as it was designed for with 43,000 refugees arriving from Somalia this year alone. Concerned over the deteriorating situation in Dadaab, the Kenyan government has recently begun moving some refugees to another camp which is a three day bus ride away. By Spencer Platt/Getty.

The Minnesota State Fair  showcases butter sculpture in the Princess Kay of the Milky Way contest. A 90 lb block of butter is taken and carved with their likenesses. It’s so bizarre really. I had the opportunity to see this several years ago with my sister. It’s funny that pageant finalists spend their whole lives avoiding fat, and at the fair their faces are full of it.

The couple had been waiting outside all night to enter the clinic the next morning. From August 11-18 the non-profit Remote Area Medical (RAM), is holding the nation's largest free healthcare clinic. Hundreds of doctors, dentists, optometrists and nurses volunteered to serve uninsured and underinsured people.
