Calm Down, Everyone

One of the many benefits of working at the Atlantic is that Marc Ambinder is on hand. He came into my office yesterday and gave me a very calming exegesis of the Democratic race. You can now have your own Ambers therapy session here. Money quote:

Q. Can Hillary Clinton win the nomination?

A. Maybe.

Q. Can you be more specific? Is it mathematically possible for her to win the nomination?

A. Yes.

Q. Is it likely that she will win the nomination?

A. Based on the math alone and a reasonable projection of external events, no.

Chait has a useful delegate math reality check here. Know hope.

“The Little Blind Kid”

A 17 year-old who can’t see is "one of the most skilled active phreakers alive." He hijacks law enforcement with malicious phone pranks:

Able to commit vast amounts of information to memory instantly, Matt has mastered the intricacies of telephone switching systems, while developing an innate understanding of human psychology and organization culture — knowledge that he uses to manipulate his patsies and torment his foes.

The holes he’s exploiting are in large part the same ones a previous generation of phreaks relied on. He’s running variations of the same old scams. Daniels notices this as well. "He is nasty as the day is long because he knows a few tricks from the old days," he says.

The Rezko Bottom Line

It seems indeed "bone-headed" to have allowed a shady character like Tony Rezko anywhere near you. At the same time, I’m having a hard time seeing anything substantively damning of Obama in the story. TPM:

And then there’s the other big question, whether Obama ever did anything for Rezko in return for his purchase of the side yard or all those contributions. Obama has said that Rezko "never asked me for anything" and "I’ve never done any favors for him." No substantial evidence has surfaced to contradict that claim.

Barring anything we don’t yet know, that seems to me to be the critical point.
